FAQs

I've had knee pain for many months. I've seen a chiropractor, orthopedist, had massage, done physical therapy, but all to no avail. Will this analysis help me?

This is an all too familiar scenario that runners face. Often times health professionals treat the symptoms not the cause, so though perhaps immediate relief is achieved, the pain returns when running resumes or is increased. Our gait analysis is solely focused on the cause of the injury, where the entire kinetic chain is assessed, in order to deduce movement patterns that are overessing areas of the body. If the cause of pain is clearly derived from soft-tissue impairment, and it's resulting bio-mechanical distortion, corrective actions can be designed so BOTH the cause and effects are being addressed.

I've had my gait analyzed at a running store and see other clinics in the area offer an analysis, how do I choose?

Our primary goal is to teach runners how to fix themselves, on their own. Most postural distortions, and the their resulting gait dysfunctions, take new and revised daily habits to reverse. For this reason it is not feasible to rely on health practitioners to do the work for you, do you have the time or money to see a specialist every day? We aim to specifically direct our clientelle on the appropriate actions (specific exercise, order of home-care, particular type of self-massage, nuero-firing exercises, etc) that will improve causative factors after many weeks, and often months, of such work.

I'm not sure if I should wear orthotics or minimalist shoes? Will you be able to help me here?

Generally speaking, our philosophy is to first make all attempts at fixing the body before changing external stimuli. In some cases the need for less or more supoort is justified, but even in these instances appropriate actions should be taken prior to this change - e.g. developing the appropriate amount of mobility and stability in the hips and feet, for example.

Why does the Gait Analysis for Injury Prevention not include video of outdoor/ground running?

Though there are differences versus treadmill and ground running, it is in our exerience that the majority of injuries stemming from bio-mechanical factors are a result of a postural imbalance that is causing the right and left leg to absorb and produce forces differently from each other. Aside from clear programming errors (i.e. introducing too much volume or speed too quickly) this is why most repetitive motion injuries from running are unilateral, pronounced more on one side than the other. Finding clear permutations of this imbalance in a more simple environment than outdoor running will allow the runner to more easily self-monitor their progress. Nearly any bio-mechanic flaw that is contributing to injury while running outdoors will also present itself while standing, walking, during functional movements, or when running on a treadmill. For this reason we find it superfluous to include the outdoor recording for this analysis. Do note the Gait Analysis for Performance does include outdoor running and assessment.

Does health insurance cover this?

We do not accept health insurance, though some providers do offer a flex account in which the subscriber can submit our invoice and proof of purchase for reimbursment. Please check with you health insurance provider for more information.
